PERSEID METEOR SHOWER & STAR PARTY
SATURDAY 8/11 • 7:30-10 PM
ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING CENTER
255 Live Oak Drive • Vero Beach

Perseid Meteor Shower & Star Party at the Environmental Learning Center on Saturday, August 11th 7:30pm to 10:00pm. The ELC is a great place to see it because our lagoon island gets beautifully dark at night making it a favorite for stargazers!

The Perseid Meteor Shower occurs each year when the earth traverses through the orbit of Comet Swift-Tuttle (the largest solar system object to pass near Earth, which occurs every 133 years). The Perseid meteor shower that we’ve grown accustom to seeing around the same time each year is the dust and debris from Swift-Turttle’s orbit, which burn up as they enter our atmosphere. The Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the most popular meteor showers that occurs each year, and this year it’s predicted to be even better with the new moon falling on the night of the shower’s peak. The ELC is already a very dark campus at nighttime, but with the new moon, this should create one of the most dark (and we mean DARK!) and ideal viewing opportunities for any meteor shower. Come and enjoy a fascinating look into the cosmos as we kick off the night at 7:30pm with a presentation jam-packed with interstellar information that’s sure spark curiosity and wonder for all ages! At8:00pm, the Brevard Astronomical Society will be sharing their expertise along with their high powered telescopes for viewing of plants and starts. We’ll also have a Kids Stary Storytime & Space Craft and Touch Tank Encounters. A night sky guide will be given out so that you’ll have information on the stars and planets you’ll see.  Be sure to bring a comfy blanket or a lawn chair or lounge chair & binoculars if you have them to view this spectacular shooting-star celebration here at the ELC’s extra-dark campus. We’ll also have binoculars for rent and give out glow items to add to the evening fun! The event is dependent upon our fickle Florida weather so check our website at discoverELC.org to make sure it’s a “go” that night – we’re keeping our fingers crossed for clear skies!

Admission is $5 for children ages 2 to 11 and $10 for Adults and children 12 and older. Free admission for children under 2 and with proof of financial need. ELC members get a discount. Go to discoverELC.org for tickets or get them the night of the event at the door. Environmental Learning Center at 255 Live Oak Drive, Vero Beach, FL 32963. 772-589-5050. THE PURE ZEPPELIN EXPERIENCE SPECIAL GUESTS: NEVER STOP BELIEVIN'- A TRIBUTE TO JOURNEY
SATURDAY 7/21 • 7:30 PM
SUNRISE THEATRE
117 South 2nd Street • Fort Pierce

Years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air…Anyone lucky enough to see Led Zeppelin in concert in the ‘70's came away changed – visceral and tough, the music entered your body, through bone and muscle, and shook you to the very core. The unprecedented mix of power and passion – for the lyrics were sometimes delicately paired with the most combustible music and melodies – made for a rock ‘n’ roll experience unmatched, before or since. Guitarist Jimmy Page summed up his band thusly: “Power. Mystery. And the Hammer of the Gods.” The hammer has been passed to The Pure Zeppelin Experience, a Florida-based tribute band that reproduces a full Zeppelin concert, the madness and the majesty, to thrilling, chest-pounding effect. These are veteran musicians who’ve sold their souls for a one-way trip on the Stairway to Heaven. If it’s been a long lonely, time since you rock and rolled, The Pure Zeppelin Experience is the answer. The songs remain the same, but come and see this band – they’re gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove. Guaranteed. PORTION OF PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.
